The King Air 100 was developed as a response to demands for an improved King Air 90. A 4 foot fuselage stretch (increasing capacity up to 9 passengers) together with a new wing, enlarged tail surfaces and uprated PT6A-28 engines produced the King Air 100. The first flight of the King Air 100 occurred in March 1969 with the aircraft undergoing different iterations including the A100 in 1972 and B100 with TPE-331 engines, before production ceased in 1983.
